Matsumurae Group –variegated - This is the best
known variegated Japanese Maple. White edge
(with pink in spring) on bluish-green leaves.
Growth habit is narrowly upright and twiggy.
Vertrees says Butterfly is "spectacular", and
"one of the most desirable cultivars of the
variegated group." Leaves scald easily in hot
bright sunlight. 5-6’ in ten years. Adult
trees may reach 8-10’. Originated at Koichiro
Wada Nursery in Japan in 1938.
